Another Graduate Student from our Lab

On Friday April 19th 2024, Lucie Bourguignon, a doctoral student from our BMDS lab, successfully graduated. She is the second doctoral student to graduate from our lab and the first graduate student of the head of our lab, Prof. Dr. Catherine Jutzeler. We celebrated her achievement with thoughtful gifts along with smiles, hugs, a delicious french apéritif, friends, movie-night, and fun.

Her Ph.D. defense took place in the Universitätsklinik Balgrist.

Lucie made significant contributions to the field of Spinal Cord Injury during her PhD. She was during this period a very successful publisher. Her PhD journey highlights a comprehensive exploration of acute SCI, spanning from international surveillance studies affirming the feasibility of multinational clinical trials to longitudinal assessments of routine laboratory markers and pharmacological management. Further investigations delve into the potential impact of commonly administered drugs, the utility of routine serological markers in predicting neurological outcomes, and challenges surrounding missing data and its implications. Additionally, innovative approaches such as applying the concept of positive deviance to spinal cord injury recovery and transforming traditional tabular presentations into interactive result visualization are explored, contributing to a holistic understanding of spinal cord injury management.

And something very remarkable, she completed the challenge of her doctoral supervisor Catherine before defending her doctoral thesis. Lucie ran her first marathon on April 7th 2024 in Paris, the Schneider Electric Marathon de Paris!!! This is amazing. It shows her discipline and dedication to work-life balance even in tense moments like a PhD defence .

Kudos to Lucie's supervisor Prof. Dr. Catherine Jutzeler for their invaluable guidance and support throughout this journey.

Once again, congratulations to Lucie!

We wish her all the best in her future career endeavors. With her dedication to Data Science, Medicine, baking and running, coupled with her talent, we are confident she will achieve ongoing success in both her professional and personal journey.
